- The Southern Necropolis was
laid out in 1840 when the Gorbals Churchard could no
longer cope with the demands for burial space. Before my
visit I looked up Colin Mackie's Southern Necropolis site where Colin has produced a map giving the
locations of a dozen graves worth visiting. As you see
from my photographs, many of the headstones have fallen
or are badly damaged so when I failed to find the first
few on Colin's list I gave up and enjoyed the
stroll.
The above inscription reads:
The property of William Munn,Shoemaker in Gorbals and
Mary Moffat his wife and their children. William Munn
died 22nd April 1859 aged 59 years, also their Grand
Children Alexander Dobbie born 2nd November 1858, died
18th July 1860 aged 1 year and 8 months. Agnes born 25th
December 1860 . . . .
