Old Corstorphine Parish Church (1404)

The parish church of St. John, with its rather strange looking stone roof, dates back to 1404 when it was built by Sir Adam Forrester as a family burial place. The distinctive square tower dates from 1429.

There is also a record of a parish church of St Mary in a charter of King David I dated 1128. St Mary's existed as a separate building until 1646 when it was demolished to make way for the north transept.

Whilst the Forrester tombs are still housed inside the church, outside the majority of the graves date from the late 19th and early 20th century.
