The very poignant inscription above
reads:
- Sacred to the memory of Rachel Clark,
daughter of William Clark, Printer, in Glasgow. Who died
on the IX of October, MDCCCXXII, in the ninth year of her
age. She was a child gifted with the most endearing
sensibility and goodness of heart, and departed this life
at a period when those amiciable qualifications were
beginning to develope themselves, which had it pleased
GOD to spare her, would have rendered her a blessing
to
her parents and an ornament to society, leaving her
afflicted Father and Mother inconsolable for her
loss.
