St Columb's was the first Protestant
Cathedral to be built in Ireland or Britain flowing the
Reformation.
As you enter through the gates there seem
to be very few headstones, it's only when you get closer do
you find that the majority of graves are marked by
flatstones, mostly from the mid to late 19th century.
On the stone below the inscription reads
:
- Sacred to the memory of Elizabeth
McCandless who departed this life
on the 14th day of November 1819, aged 67 years.
Also her son William, who being overcome by deep
grief
departed this life on the same night, aged 44
years.
The large tomb, above, belongs to
the Maughan family.
- Above is the headstone of Anne Reid
who died in 1855, aged 37, and of her daughter, Mary, who
died in 1847 aged 1.
